Why Did I Start This?

Well...mainly becuse upon surfing round the web there was nothing out there covering this topic. Yes ..I know you can order from Amazon....Or do a search with Brendon Books...but there's no where you can go and find pictures of these titles to jog your memory. Or discuss particularly these sort of books. So here it is......Enjoy!

Just come across your site - fantastic! The "Wide Range Readers" seems to stir a memory, but not too sure!

I remember in primary school, we read stories about a dog named Tip. Would love to find copies somewhere.

hi, i was talking to my children recently about the first reading books i was given at school. my school used the "through the rainbow" reading scheme. am i right in thinking the first 3 books were called "red book one, red book two, etc? they were larger than the rest of the scheme, every other page was blank with 3 or 4 lines at the bottom for the child to copy the opposite page's picture and text ("here is mummy".)im not sure if we took the books home or used them at school.
it was such a lovely feeling to see the pictures you have on your site, i kept saying "oh yeah i remember those books!" it made me full of happy memories.

Hi, this has really got the memory working, I also remember some books "using good english" and "primary english", which was in the seventies. Thanks for this, and good to see that some of them are still around.! Dave M

Find your I'm a collector of early readers from the 1950's to the late 1970's, mainly New Zealand ones. I have a pretty wide variety now. So love that there are others interested in these books.

I have been using the Griffin Pirate stories for the last 30 - currently with my year 2 children. the reason they still listen - open-mouthed and silent - is because Sheila McGullagh never talked down to children - she wrote brilliant, myth-like stories that have lasted through time. has anyone read her 'Tim and the Hidden People' series - BRILLIANT stories (rivals Dr Who) - they were aimed at reluctant, struggling boy readers of around 8-9. - wish I had kept that series as well as the Pirates!

Thanks pal for posting creating this blog. I'm 41 years of age and had my primary educatioon during the 70's. Now that I have primary shcoll childresn of my own, I too had been scouring the net to purchase books from my time to educate my own children. I've found all I was searching for here and many more I had long forgotten about such as the beta maths books.

If you know where I can buy entire collections at a go, I woudl love to know.

My email is flash_gawdon@yahoo.com

Where did you acquire your book images/books from?

hi just come across your site and loving it. you might be able to help, im trying to trcak down book i read when in school late 80s early 90s not that long ago, i thought they were through the rainbow, but it seems they weren't. they were a series of book in different colours, the book woould be in a light colour say light green, then there was a picture on it, that related to a story in the book. there would also be a green thick line that went around the picture in a darker shade of green. the books also had a selection of stories in them, not just one. i can remember reading about the selkies in one particular book! hope someone out there can help, its driving me mad! Thanks

Oh my goodness, I have just found your site & have finally been able to put a name to the very first reading books I used in Infants School - the 'Through The Rainbow' series - what an amazing nostalgia trip! Caroline's comment about the red books finally nailed my memory (do you have any of these?) Thank you so much

I have managed to get hold of two of the 'Through The Rainbow Series' but only the hardback gold and silver series, can't find decent copies of the paperback ones ANYWHERE!..The hardback ones are easily picked up in charity shops, it's always worth a quick look through a charity shops book section.
